Woodson's Mill - Exterior & Waterwheels

One of the most photogentic gristmills in the United States today !
And . . . it is open and functioning. Using waterpower (dam, pond, sluice gates, head race, flume & waterwheel) and grinding 52" mill stones.

This is the left side of the building.
Here there is a flume and waterwheel that is not longer in service.
This is the rear of Woodson's Mill. You can identify the mill race.
The functioning head race is directed into the flume, into the retention box and onto the enormous waterwheel.
This waterwheel is located on the left side of the mill. The larger, wider waterwheel is located on the right side of the mill.

This large waterwheel is found on the right side of the mill facing the front of the mill.
Here you can see the main power shaft from the wheel to the gears. The small gear is directing the energy into a drive shaft that is then redistributed vertically into the millstones.
What an impressive shot of the waterwheel: CHRISTIANA, PA.
Sometimes, we just get artsy !
